GAMMA KAPPA PHI INTERNATIONAL-USM

  Gamma Kappa Phi

The organization was initially formed as the Gentlemen's Club (G-Club) in 1961 by mostly Liberal Arts students at the Divine World College, forerunner of today's Holy Name University in Tagbilaran, then the capital town of the beautiful Island Province of Bohol. The G-Club had then become a venue for discussions of topics ranging from social concerns, local politics and to issues of national interest.

Lawyer Rosemarie Beldia a professor of School of Law in Divine World College suggested to her younger brother Antonio "Tony" Beldia III that the G-Club transform itself into a fraternity. Tony Beldia III entertained the idea and called for a meeting with the G-Club. Ten of the members agreed and consequently established the GAMMA KAPPA PHI FRATERNITY.

On October 9, 1962, the the ten founding members formed the Gamma Kappa Phi Fraternity. It was organized to promote mutual assistance in leadership and scholarship; foster brotherhood and the spirit of camaraderie among the student body; help implement the rules and regulations prescribed by the chapter's school administration; and achieve other goals or such other aims incidental to the objectives of the fraternity.

The ten founders were Vicente Bacquial, Antonio Beldia III, Florante Cimagala, Alfonso Damalerio, Lauro Dominise, Landelino Maslog, Fernan Maslog, Romulo Racho, Fred Sinajon and Prisco Vinalon.

In 1964, the fraternity organized the Gamma Kappa Sigma Sorority. It had its own set of officers and constitution and went on to become the fore-bearer of sorority to this day.

In later years, the Fraternity and Sorority in Tagbilaran has become the Alpha Chapter as the organization expanded to other parts of the Philippines and spread its alumni members around the world.
